CORE PROGRAMMES

SWIFT’s strategic intent focuses on 3 key areas to facilitate implementation of the organisation’s core programmes. The core programmes are Advocacy, Skills & Mentorship and Sisterhood Cinema. The core programmes are led by Board Heads of Programme and constituted by sub-committee member volunteers supported by the Operations team responsible for capacity building and stakeholder relations.
Each programme has its own objectives and implementation plans that are delivered as annual projects and brand activations, in collaboration with key stakeholders and through industry partnerships.

The core programs are Advocacy, Skills & Mentorship and Sisterhood Cinema which are headed by Board members and constituted by sub-committee member volunteers. Operations is responsible for capacity building and stakeholder relations and is supported by the Communications and Marketing sub-committee.

Advocacy

Create a strong advocacy unit for women in the industry that will serve as a vehicle to address historical socio-economic inequalities and its pertinent effects on the industry.

Transform the audio-visual industry to be a more equitable sector in terms of gender, race and by advocating for safe working environments free from sexual harassment and discrimination.

Equitable economic representation of women throughout the industry value chain, pay parity and access to work opportunities.

Secure partners that will support strategic focus of Advocacy as outlined in its strategy

Develop and implement a funding and income generation strategy for key organisational sustainability

Fosters partnerships and capacity building through marketing and communications campaigns


Skills & Mentorship

Facilitate the professional and personal development of South African women in the audio-visual content creation sector.

Enable an environment for growth that equips women with relevant knowledge, technical skills and digital innovation in the audio-visual industry.

Create engagement platforms, networking opportunities and facilitate mentorship support structures to further catapult women’s career aspirations. A new generations of women must be able to grow and learn from those who have gone before them.

Nurture emerging female talent in the audio-visual industry.

Develop partnerships with organisations seeking to further the professional progression of women in general.

Curate training, contribute educational content for SWIFT digital platforms, and developing key industry insights.

Sisterhood Cinema

Support the creative and professional work of women involved in various productions through hosted screenings to showcase their talents within and outside of SWIFT.

Honour and celebrate women-led content projects from South Africa, the diaspora, and the world.

Inspire dialogue that question the representation of women on and off-screen through various Thought Leadership engagements.

Foster collaborations that keep the organisation connected to women’s issues locally, globally and strengthen connections with similar organisations around the world.

Establish partnerships with content distributors, media owners and broadcasters to screen content developed by SWIFT members and women in general



Comms & Marketing

The operation team is responsible for all SWIFT brand and PR activities supported by a Marketing and Communications sub-committee that collaborates with member volunteers to form a content & editorial panel. The panel will ensure representation of the members voices in planning and execution of key SWIFT projects and identify key growth opportunities for the Sisterhood. The panel will also focus on sourcing sponsorship and brand partnerships required to build the creative, production and publishing skills within the SWIFT network for project related briefs and coproduction initiatives. The support requirements include skills training, technical equipment, other related content, and audience development resources.
Through collaborations with broadcasters, brands, content creators & distributors, OTT media and film festivals etc., various brand activations and engagement sessions will be hosted to explore topics relevant to SWIFT members and women in general, while celebrating the emerging female talent and honouring the work of women who have pioneered representation in the industry and continue to run successful enterprises.
